Who Is R. L. Stine?
Why, he’s Jack Black! 23 years after the first Goosebumps book was published, Hollywood is finally making the first movie based on the famous series.
If you grew up in the ’90s, you know that Goosebumps is synonymous with horror (and literature). In fact, if you close your eyes, you can probably picture the many colorful front covers of these childhood classics, ranging from ventriloquist dummies to haunted summer camps. Who could forget the TV spinoff? Those were some of the best spooky tales, aside from Are You Afraid of the Dark? of course.
While they tried making a film adaptation that was to be directed in Tim Burton in 1998, no project ever came to fruition. Now, finally, the first-ever Goosebumps movie is headed our way, right in time for Halloween 2015.
True, it all seems pretty silly, and with Jack Black in the role of author R. L. Stine (so meta), we can only expect his usual gags. But the cool thing about this movie is that it would be just as much fun for kids as it would be for their parents, who probably read the books when they were kids or teenagers. As a huge horror fan, I love that this will open up the genre to a whole new generation of fans.
