It’s official: the photo and video-sharing social media platform Instagram now has more followers than Twitter.

The social media app, which was first released in 2010, says it’s reached the 300 million mark for active monthly users, compared to Twitter’s 284 million. Twitter was founded in 2006.

Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom (30) has described the app as a “home to creativity in all its forms,” allowing users to share images and videos from the most mundane to the most exotic. The company was bought by Facebook in 2012 and has only continued to grow since then. Reports show that users interact with Instagram at 18 times the rate they do with ‘the book.’

Future plans for the company include eradicating spam profiles and authenticating celebrities. So stay tuned as Instagram continues to improve, and keep posting your #foodporn, #selfie, #livingwithmybetches #live – or whatever else it is that makes Insta so great.
