NASA Chief Scientist Says We’ll Find Aliens in 10 Years

You read it right.

NASA’s head honcho, Dr. Ellen Stofan, confidently stated at a recent panel at the organization’s headquarters that it’s only a matter of time before we discover alien life on other planets. According to her prediction, only 10 to 20 years.

Before you start picturing little green men shaking hands with the president, think instead of looking through a microscope in freshman year biology class. Stofan clarified that “we are talking about microbes,” especially ones that live in water.

That’s why NASA is currently investing so much time and energy in locating planets and moons – within and without our galaxy – that currently have or once had water. For the time being, Mars is the best candidate for identifying if the planet’s ancient water sources left behind any trace of organisms that could have thrived there long ago.

Do you think 10 to 20 years sounds way too soon?
