“Everybody cries through this, right?”
The trailer for the upcoming documentary I Am Chris Farley was finally released, and now we know that we’re in for an emotional roller coaster.
The movie, set to release on August 1 of this year, focuses on the life and career of the famous comedian Chris Farley, who died in 1997. In the trailer, you can see some of the interviews from other comedians like Adam Sandler, Bob Saget, Molly Shannon, Lorne Michaels, and of course David Spade. While Farley may have been known as the funniest man of his generation, the tear-jerking trailer is proof that the documentary will focus on much more than his comedy.
Best known for funny roles on SNL and in comedic classics like Billy Madison, Black Sheep, and Tommy Boy, the more serious nature of the trailer promises to delve deeper than the boisterous persona we all knew and admired. The interviews featured in the trailer go on to talk about Chris’ “constant battle” and the struggle of dealing with fame.
“You can’t walk around being funny all the time. You have to be yourself sometimes,” warns actor Bob Odenkirk. Another interviewee goes on to say that the world only ever saw the tip of the iceberg when we saw Farley performing. Surely, I Am Chris Farley will bring to light Farley’s other side as well as the personal demons he faced before dying of an accidental overdose when he was only 33 and at the prime of his fateful career.
Watch the trailer for yourself. You might want to have a few tissues handy.
“Everybody cries through this, right?” You won’t look at Chris Farley the same way after this documentary.
