Spartans: the much-anticipated release of Halo 5: Guardians just keeps on getting more confusing.
Since the launch of an entire tumblr dedicated to teasing the game, set to release some time in fall 2015, fans have been urged to “hunt the truth”… only we’re not quite sure what truth it is we’re searching.
To hype up the game, the release campaign has included a storyline about a “journalist and war photographer” named Benjamin Giraud who is doing an in-depth profile on Master Chief, and that’s where the intrigue begins.
Apparently, someone is calling the Chief a traitor. That’s right: the stoic, nearly silent protagonist of the Halo franchise is suddenly being called into questioning by Giraud, who asks, “Who is the Master Chief, where does he come from, and is he keeping us safe?”
The idea of a traitor ties into a teaser trailer, which features a bullet that says “traitor” shattering Master Chief’s visor. The video has since been removed from YouTube, but you can catch it in the first few seconds of this analysis:
Mystery abounds, but it looks like the launch campaign will be releasing new tidbits of information from Benjamin each week.
Whether or not you think Master Chief could be a traitor, there’s one thing we can all agree on for the time being: the voice actor behind Benjamin’s mini podcasts really sucks.
Something big is happening in deep space, and Master Chief’s reputation is at stake. This teaser will make you want to hunt the truth!
