What does the Earth look like from space?

You never really appreciate home until you leave it behind.

A while back, we reported on NASA astronaut Scott Kelly, who will be the first-ever American to spend an entire year in space. His time aboard the International Space Station began in March 2015, and since then, he has left us speechless day after day by posting breathtaking images of the Earth.

On a special request from President Obama, Kelly has started a stunning campaign on Twitter and Instagram, using the hashtag #YearInSpace to share his unique point of view of our world with his hundreds of thousands of followers.

In this slideshow, we’ve selected only the most humbling, surreal, and awe-inspiring pictures of our blue planet.
