The Name Wes Craven Is Synonymous with Horror.
Best known from the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, as well as The Hills Have Eyes and The Last House on the Left, Craven’s 45-year career as a writer, director, and producer left a mark on the horror industry that went far beyond mere movies, forever changing pop culture as we know it.
Though Wes Craven first started out in an academic career, he quickly went on to work in film, developing a noteworthy style that often dealt with themes of nature, reality, and humanity. His work is also well known for being self-aware and self-referential, such as the film within a film Stab in the Scream franchise.
The late icon died on August 30, 2015 at 76 years of age after battling with brain cancer, but his impact on film and the public imagination will certainly last forever.
