The world simply cannot get enough zombies.
What is it about our obsession with the undead that has turned what started as Romero’s independent film into a multi-billion dollar industry? Mind you, Night of the Living Dead had a budget of $114,000 before it breathed new ‘life’ into zombie culture.
From Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, to Nazi zombies, to today’s most-recognizable undead franchise, The Walking Dead, it would seem that we, the living, love to relish in the idea that our race will be wiped out, only to leave behind rotting, reanimated monsters. And yet, after binge watching hours of gruesome, post-apocalyptic fiction, we go back to our comfortable, very much alive lifestyles. C’est la vie.
Well c’est la mort should be the slogan of AMC’s upcoming spinoff, Fear the Walking Dead, which will (finally!!!) fill us in on exactly what happened at the start of the viral outbreak that led to the decimated world and society of the father show.
According to the creators of this new companion series, the show will stay true to The Walking Dead while letting viewers know what was going on in other parts of the country/ world at the start of the zombie apocalypse.
The series is currently set to air two seasons in summer 2015 and summer 2016. It will star Kim Dickens, Cliff Curtis, Frank Dillane, and Alycia Debnam Carey. All we have so far is this subtly thrilling super short trailer, set in Los Angeles.
