Just like that, everything you thought you knew about The Simpsons has been flipped on its head.

Earlier this week, we learned that on this year’s Treehouse of Horror, Sideshow Bob will finally kill Bart Simpson. Now, after 26 seasons, executive producer Al Jean has confirmed that Homer and Marge will legally separate.

According to Jean, “In the premiere, it’s discovered after all these years Homer has narcolepsy and it’s an incredible strain on the marriage. Homer and Marge legally separate.

The real kicker? Homer falls for a new pharmacist, voiced by none other than Lena Dunham. Springfield is starting to feel crowded!

But no need to fear for the future of the beloved husband and wife. As most sites are pointing out, Homer and Marge weren’t technically married for 12 seasons (8 through 20) due to the ministerial license mishap of Reverend Lovejoy. (If anyone else watched Gilligan’s Island on Nick at Nite as a kid, this plot may sound familiar.)

So what else should we expect on the upcoming 27th season of The Simpsons? Jean told Variety that we should expect the return of Spider Pig, and an episode parodying Boyhood (which I probably won’t watch).

The new season premieres on September 27.

Is it the end of the road for Homer and Marge?
