A new Suicide Squad theory from Reddit is starting to gain some major traction online, and for a good reason: it will blow your mind.

The Joker isn’t the Joker. That’s what the original post reads, and since then, it’s been 82% upvoted and merited hundreds of responses. But if the Joker isn’t the Joker, who is he? The answer is simple: he’s Robin.

Holy Fan Theories, Batman! I know what you’re thinking: it’s crazy. But Redditor DeathByRequest backs up his theory with some pretty convincing proof that shows off some serious gumshoe research. The following pictures taken from Suicide Squad teasers and the Batman v Superman trailer show what appear to be a fairly convincing–or at least fairly suspicious–relation. The damaged Robin suit we see in the trailer clearly has two bullet holes/ puncture wounds in the shoulders, and Jared Leto’s Joker happens to have what look like two scars in the same locations.

Fans that are supporting–or at least entertaining–the theory agree that Jared Leto’s Joker simply appears to be too young to be the actual Clown Prince of Crime, and that he might just be a copycat or even a brainwashed reincarnation of the villain. Other dedicated Batman scholars have pointed out that in the comic’s history, Robin Tim Drake had the latter situation happen to him, so the movie plot may be pulling from earlier literature.
