Meet Katherine Waterston, the actress who was just announced by Warner Bros. as the leading lady in the new Harry Potter spinoff movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The British actress, 35, will star opposite another Brit, Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne. Fantastic Beasts is set in the U.S. as opposed to Britain, and Waterson’s character is named Porpentina.
The film, which Potter author J. K. Rowling is penning the screenplay for, is based off of a Hogwarts textbook. The basic plot is that Porpentina meets magizoologist Newt Scamander (Redmayne) who is in NYC to find and document magical creatures. David Yates, who directed the last four Potter films, is also on board, so we know it’ll be just as good as the the previous movies.
Waterston isn’t a household name, but we’re sure she’ll shine. We can’t wait for more of the wizarding world on the big screen!
