A while back, you might have heard the sad news that Simpsons voice actor Harry Shearer – the talent behind the likes of Ned Flanders, Mr. Burns, and Principal Skinner – was leaving the show over a contract dispute.
The Golden Age of the show is long gone, but that doesn’t mean we should give up on The Simpsons just because one guy quit. The solution: hire a new voice actor.
Voice impressionist Mykle Hunter has plenty of entertaining videos on his YouTube channel, but this Simpsons one grabbed our attention. In the video, he shows off his skills of sounding like Homer, Mr. Burns, Smithers, Flanders, and more. Is this kid good enough to become the next voice of The Simpsons?
I’m not so sure. Whenever a voice actor changes, I feel like you can’t help but notice the small idiosyncrasies that have changed, and it’s never the same again (at least, not for a while). Kind of like when Sailor Moon’s voice changed in the first season, or Meg in Family Guy: there’s just something different about the feel.
Still, Hunter is a lot more talented than I’ll ever be! Even his normal voice sounds like the smoothest radio DJ in town. Do you think he’s good enough to tackle TV?
