The Tesla Model S is the new fast and furious car on the street.

The sexy new car may seem to be built for speed, not safety, but it’s fully capable of serving both purposes — family car by day, and sports car by night. Watch as the electric Tesla shows its superiority by leaving the Dodge Challenger in the dust.

Tesla is an American electric car company founded and run by PayPal billionaire Elon Musk. Their newest electric creation has incredible acceleration. In fact, International Business Times reports that the Tesla Model S is “the fastest-accelerating four-door production car ever made, despite weighing over two tons and offering seating for five adults and two children.” Incredibly, the car moves from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 3.2 seconds. The Model S is “five times that of a regular family car and more than all but two road cars ever produced by Ferrari.” The car is only available for purchase in the United States at this time.

The new 2015 Tesla P85D tested its speediness in the 1/4 mile drag race track and apparently broke a new world record. The record was set at the Palm Beach International Raceway and was andofficially recognisedby the National Electric Drag Racing Association (NEDRA). The previous record holder was the Tesla Roadster, a two-seat convertible sports car. The Tesla Roadster held the electric car 0-60 record at 3.7 seconds.

The Tesla matched up its all wheel-drive two electric motors for a combined output of 691 horsepower against the power behind Dodge’s Challenger Hellcat, a new 6.2 liter 707 horsepower Hemi V8 car. This time around, the Tesla moved from 0 to 60 in just 3.1 seconds, better than previous reports. StreetCarDrags says that during the run the Tesla Model S P85D set a new world record (verified by NEDRA) for being the quickest and fastest production electric car in the world, running 11.6 @ 114.6 MPH down the 1/4 mile with a very impressive 1.65 60 time.
