Sometimes, even the smallest details make for big changes in the way we look at the world around us. And sometimes, we need some of our culture’s best franchises to help pave the way.

This new commercial promoting Star Wars-inspired soup from Campbell’s has a subtly powerful message about family, acceptance, and love. The cute and corny ad starts off by showing a dad feeding his son Campbell’s soup while humming “The Imperial March” from Star Wars before iterating Darth Vader’s–if not the franchise’s–most iconic line (personalized for his son), “Cooper, I am your father.” We’ve seen this before, so what makes the commercial so special? Cooper’s other dad.

“No no no: I am your father,” chimes in dad #2, as he feeds his son another spoonful of America’s favorite soup. And just like that, Campbell’s is breaking down walls that have been long established and heavily guarded in our country, if not the whole galaxy.

It seems like these days, more and more brands are choosing to vocally and visually demonstrate their stance on today’s biggest issues–like gay marriage–as well as longstanding problems in our society such as racism, bigotry, and hatred or discrimination in general. Among these companies are Coca-Cola, Target, Whole Foods, Starbucks, and Cheerios.

The Force is with marriage equality in this awesome “Star Wars” soup ad.
