The Fourth of July may be four long months away, but it’s never too early to be a patriot, especially when the leads for Independence Day 2 have been announced.
And with actors like the studly Liam Hemsworth and the sophisticated Jeff Goldblum, loving your country is about as easy as it gets. Also cast in a lead role is 23-year-old (mostly television) actor Jessie Usher.
The sequel is set to premiere on June 24, 2016 – a little over a week shy of the 20th anniversary of the original film’s release date of July 3, 1996 – and rumor has it that the plot will bear some continuation. According to reports, Jessie Usher will play the role of Will Smith’s character’s son Dylan Hiller. Goldblum will return as MIT grad David Levinson, but there has not been confirmation thus far on whom Hemsworth will portray.
Notable sci-fi and action director Roland Emmerich has returned for the project, which gives us some hope that the new movie will compare to the awesomeness (and ridiculousness) of the first. Whether or not we’ll see Will Smith again seems pretty doubtful, but who knows if Bill Pullman will make a guest appearance.
So do you think that it will be the same aliens coming back for more, or will the sequel be a whole new battle for Earth?
Let’s just hope that this time around, citizens of the world know that the aliens sure as heck won’t be coming in peace.
Is the Earth ready to fight for its independence… again? See if Will Smith or Bill Pullman will be making an appearance…
