The World of Ice and Fire is about to get a little more magical with the Season 6 addition of this actor, previously of Harry Potter fame.
28-year-old Freddie Stroma – who played the arrogant Cormac McLaggen in the final three Harry Potter films – will be making his Game of Thrones debut as Dickon Tarly, Sam Tarly’s younger brother whose masculinity and knack for fighting caused Lord Tarly to disinherit Sam by sending him to join the Night’s Watch. The very fact that we know Stroma will be joining the show as Dickon means Season 6 is sure to include a reunion of sorts between Sam and his estranged family while en route to Oldtown, thus revealing more plot from the yet unpublished books.
This isn’t the first time we’re seeing actors from the magical world of Harry Potter in Game of Thrones roles, and given the very large casts of both fictional epics, it isn’t too surprising. Stroma also stars in UnREAL, which I’ve heard really good things about but haven’t watched yet. You might also recognize him as the radio DJ in the Pitch Perfect movies.
What do you think about the new casting choice? I feel like Stroma will probably pull from his performance as Cormac as he invents Dickon for the small screen. The two characters don’t seem too different to me, although I doubt young Tarly will be used for comic relief like McLaggen was in the HP movies.
