Be prepared to get the side eye
I’m a crazy geeky cat lady. I have a Pusheen calendar and plushes, cat t-shirts and a mug that looks like my cat, Ponyo. Now let’s up the dork level by putting my cat on a leash for walks! She loves being outside. When we lived in NYC she had to be a indoor cat and when we moved down south she now spends 90% of her day outside. She loves hunting lizards, watching birds and sparring with other kitties. She much happier and healthier for it — no more UTIs!
There’s lots of great reasons why you should take your cat for a walk. Even indoor felines can benefit from it — just put her on a cat leash!
We all know that cats are extremely curious. “A lot of cats love to go outside and smell things, see things and roll around in sand and grass and dirt. They love to scratch real trees, ” says Sherry Woodward, an animal behavioral specialist for the Best Friends Animal Society.
Cats are finicky creatures. Not all of them will enjoy being put on a leash, but at least give it a try. Your kitty will have to get acclimated to having something around them. Start by training them inside with the harness to see if they get used to it.
