Today, at approximately 7:49 AM EDT, NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft performed its flyby of Pluto, getting the closest anyone has ever come to the dwarf planet.

Our exploration of Pluto has been a long time coming. Since the first successful flyby of Venus in 1962, mankind has sent out space probes to every major body in our Solar System, culminating with the former planet Pluto today, July 14, 2015.
