Luke… I am thy father.
When you think of Star Wars, aside from the sheer awesomeness of the galaxy created by George Lucas, one of the first things you probably think of are all the beautiful, detailed, and iconic costumes. Specifically, you probably think of Darth Vader in his intimidating black armor with his cape flowing and his threatening helmet hovering several feet above you in the air.
But if Star Wars took place “a long time ago,” who’s to say that Vader’s armor couldn’t undergo a bit of a medieval treatment? Prince Armory, a Texas-based creator of costumes, custom leather armor, and accessories, is currently getting some buzz over a pretty cool fantasy Vader suit they made a few months back.
The Armory has completely reimagined Darth Vader’s hard black armor, deciding to rebuild it out of leather with a medieval flair. The result is this impressive creation, complete with intricate shoulder pads and a red-accented doublet. Luckily it’s supposed to be pretty cold in space; we don’t even want to think about how hot it would be under this suit.
From looking at the pictures, the only thing we’re not crazy about is the helmet, which has buggy eyes that give the wearer a sort of insectile appearance that takes away from the otherwise menacing getup.
While it’s not better than the original, it’s always cool to see new portrayals of classic characters and costumes, especially when it’s obvious how much work has gone into it. The guy or gal who wore this to Comic Con would instantly be the star of the show.
