In the past, Senator Ted Cruz, a Republican from Texas, has gone on record denying climate change and has regularly pushed for government cutbacks.

Now, with the 114th Congress just recently taking oath, Cruz will chair the Senate subcommittee of Space, Science and Competitiveness. This means that he will also be overseeing NASA, which is already suffering from a lack of government funding.

What is so scary and concerning about Cruz’s appointment, which took place January 8, is that he denies that climate change exists. Whether you call it climate change or global warming, it is not a myth. It is a fact. It’s science!

So to clarify: somebody who does not believe something that is a scientific fact is in charge of overseeing science for the United States of America. This is something that should be absolutely alarming.

Cruz has already shown signs that he has no interest in helping preserve space exploration. In July 2013, Cruz attempted to amend a spending authorization bill which would have cut the funding for NASA. Thankfully, both parties rejected it.

We all knew the Republican-controlled House was going to do everything that it could to prevent President Obama from accomplishing his agenda, but now we are starting to realize the jeopardy that America could be in.

Could there have been a worse choice to oversee space and science in the U.S.A.? Find out why we’re all doomed.
