Bebop and Rocksteady Confirmed to Be in ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2’

Is bringing back two of your favorite characters from the Ninja Turtles you knew and loved in the ’90s going to make you want to see the upcoming sequel to 2014’s pathetic excuse for a movie? Maybe not, but if anything, it’s a step in the right direction.

After Transformers director Jonathan Liebesman’s live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles disappointed audiences everywhere (yet still brought in over $480 million worldwide) in 2014, Paramount quickly gave the green light to a sequel. Despite over a decade of waiting for a reboot of the awesomely iconic franchise, fans were let down by the all-brawn-and-no-brain, CGI-happy, and more or less plotless blockbuster. There was no denying that the film just drifted too far from the series’ original heart and cannon in order to please modern audiences with lots of action and pointless fighting.

So how can the studios make amends before the sequel? By staying truer to the TMNT’s roots.

It has been known for some time that the folks behind the first movie almost included longtime fan favorites like Bebop and Rocksteady, two of Shredder’s most inept henchmen, but this week, producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form finally confirmed that these two (as well as several others) will appear in TMNT 2.

Which other characters might you hope to see in the sequel? Masked vigilante and Turtles’ ally Casey Jones, for one, and maybe even my personal favorite, Krang. How cool would it be to see the dismembered brain wrecking havoc in his mechanical suit? We can only hope.

So what should you expect Bebop and Rocksteady to look like in the live-action film? This concept art came out shortly before the first film (from which the dastardly duo was scratched). We’re not sure how different they’ll look for the sequel, but this isn’t a bad start.

They’ve come a long way…

At the moment, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 is set to release on June 3, 2016.
