Be Prepared: This Is What Happens When It’s Condom Day in Japan

Happy Condom Day!

Well, at least that’s what they’re calling it in Japan. As it turns out, today is a special day on Asian social media thanks to a popular portmanteau from today’s date: May 6.

In Japanese, May is go-gatsu and sixth is muika. If you take the first two letters from each word, you get gomu, meaning “rubber” (it’s a loanword from the English “gum”). That said, today is Rubber Day.

Leave it to the clever (and perverted?) Japanese to think of all that in the first place and then turn it into a fad where they post pictures of themselves holding condoms on social media. Don’t believe me?

Take a look for yourself in our slideshow, but be prepared (get it?)

Leave it to Japan to celebrate something as bizarre as Condom Day. These pictures are nuts…
